Mozia Sicily DOC Grillo Tasca d'Almerita
Mozia Sicily DOC Grillo Tasca d'Almerita
The Whitaker vineyard is located on the ancient Phoenician island of Mozia, off the coast of Marsala, in Sicily. Small but incredibly rich in historical evidence, Mozia boasts a microclimate in which the Grillo grape expresses all its vital force. The vineyard is in a splendid position, surrounded by archaeological sites and near a brackish pond where in ancient times people used to fish with casting nets. The first planting of vines in Mozia dates back to the early nineteenth century, when the English, arriving from nearby Marsala, identified pedoclimatic characteristics very favorable to the production of grapes.
Vintage: 2021
The depth of the earth allows adequate development of the grape tree. Long pruning, "Marsala-style bow", is the most appropriate for the Grillo grape, given the low fertility at the base of the shoot. The harvest, slightly anticipated, preserves some points of acidity to maintain the freshness of the sip and the longevity, which the white of Mozia has been able to demonstrate over the years.
Bottled by the winemaker Tasca d'Almerita, Mozia (Island of San Pantaleo (TP), Stagnone islet a few kilometers from the coast of Marsala) Sicily, Italy.
